About
Bio/Description

Hwai-Ray (Ray) Tung is an incoming postdoctoral research associate joining the Program in Applied & Computational Mathematics and the Levin Lab in March 2026. He completed his PhD in mathematics at Duke University in 2023 under the guidance of Rick Durrett and is finishing a postdoc position in the University of Utah math department. His work generally uses simple stochastic models to understand phenomena in a variety of biological areas. Previous topics include what to do after missing a dose of antibiotic, cancer evolution, and extreme first passage times, among others. In addition to stochastic models, he has also worked on deterministic models as well as topological data analysis. He is looking forward to working on forest-grassland models during his time at Princeton. Outside of research, Ray enjoys playing games of all kinds, exploring local eateries, and taking short hikes.
